Welcome and Invitation We welcome all those visiting with us. We invite you to fill out a visitor card found in the pew rack so that we might have the opportunity to get to know you better. We are open to all those seeking a place to grow in faith, and to share God’s love with others. If you are interested in membership, or want to know more about Berryville Presbyterian Church, we invite you to speak with the Pastor following the service.
Sanctuary Flowers
If you are interested in providing flowers for our worship during 2012, there is a calendar posted outside the sanctuary where you may sign up. Flowers can be given in memory of special loved ones, or in celebration of meaningful people and events in your family’s life. If you are interested, or have questions, please speak with Camilla Welsh, our flower Chairperson.
Berryville Presbyterian Church’s Vision Statement
The Berryville Presbyterian Church seeks to be the body of Christ: a diverse congregation of faith, prayer, and worship whose people are inspired by God’s Word and committed to serve others, reaching out to the community with warmth, love and creativity.
New Orleans Mission Trip
Our next work trip to the Gulf Coast is slated for Feb 25 – Mar 3, 2012. We will work for Project Homecoming, a ministry of the Presbytery of South Louisiana in partnership with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA). We will stay at the presbytery’s Olive Tree Volunteer Village that is an indoor facility. Last year we learned that there are still over 40,000 homes needing rebuilding. There will be a planning meeting on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Winchester.
Presbytery Clean-up Bucket Project
Last year’s storms and flooding exhausted the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and Church World Service supply of Clean-up Buckets. Clean-up buckets are the most expensive and complicated of the Gifts of the Heart Kits and so are the hardest to gather. The Shenandoah Presbytery Disaster Response Team has initiated a project to create kits at the Feb. 11th Presbytery Meeting. Each congregation is asked to contribute. Our congregation has committed to provide 25 boxes of Dry Laundry Powder between 50 and 78 oz. Please bring your contribution to the church by Feb. 5. It is ESSENTIAL that the item be exactly as described. Larger items will not fit in the kits and smaller items will not do the job.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a time of spiritual reflection and preparation for the celebration of Easter. One of the major themes that run through the Lenten season is a recognition of and repentance from sin. Ash Wednesday services make prominent this focus in liturgy, prayer, and the ritual of the imposition of ashes, a physical sign of repentance. On Wednesday, February 22nd, at 7:00 PM in our sanctuary we will hold a devotional service to mark the beginning of Lent. I invite you all to join us as we turn our hearts toward God and lay hold to the promise of grace.
30 Hour Famine
Once again the Youth will be participating in the 30 Hour Famine to raise funds and awareness of the plight of those who daily go without basic nutrition. The Famine will be held March 9-10. It takes $180 to feed a hungry child for one month; our goal is to feed a child for a year . . . or more. Please help our youth do so by making a donation to our Famine effort.
Stop Hunger Now
Back by popular demand is the Stop Hunger Now food packaging event. This year it will be held on March 10th at Grace Episcopal Church. We will be assembling food packets containing rice, vegetables and other nutrients. The youth will take part in conjunction with the 30 Hour Famine. The rest of the congregation is encouraged to join us for some portion of the day. Financial donations will be received, with every dollar allowing us to package more food and thus impact more lives. Checks can be made out to the church with ‘Stop Hunger Now’ printed in the memo section.
Super Bowl Party & Chili Cook Off
On February 5th, the Fellowship Committee will be hosting a Super Bowl party and Chili Cook-off beginning at 6:00 PM. Come watch the big game in a fun and festive atmosphere. The Chili Cook-off will be conducted as a fundraiser for the Youth’s 30 Hour Famine. Please sign up below if you would like to enter a pot of chili. Those not bringing chili are invited to bring their favorite big game snack food, a side dish or a dessert to share. Please plan on joining us and consider inviting a friend to come along.
