The SHARE Food Network distributes high quality, affordable nutritious food as a way to build community and strengthen families. Organized through 320 churches and community groups, participants perform two hours of volunteer service and pay $20.50 monthly to purchase groceries worth approximately $40.00 - $45.00. People are empowered through SHARE (Self Help And Resource Exchange) to stretch their family's food budget, access information on health and nutrition, and develop partnerships to prevent hunger in communities. Established in 1990, the SHARE Food Network provides approximately 13,500 food packages each month. By combining buying power and volunteerism, SHARE is able to offer quality foods and substantial savings to its participants.
Beginning in April of this year, Berryville Presbyterian joined into an established SHARE outreach in Clarke County. By providing staff and volunteer support we seek to help struggling families and individuals stretch their food budgets. Anyone can order a food package (contents vary month to month). The only requirement is that a prepaid order is placed by the ordering deadline and that the recipient performs 2 hours of community service during the month. On distribution day (generally the third Saturday of each month) we will work with our partner church, Destiny Christian Center in Front Royal to sort and fill food orders and then bring them back to our Fellowship Hall to distribute to those who have ordered them.
The congregation can help by volunteering on Distribution Saturday to either help sort and pick up orders in Front Royal and/or helping to distribute the orders from our Fellowship Hall. You can also be active in spreading the word that we are involved in this ministry and encouraging others to participate by placing orders, you may even want to identify a family or individual in need and place an order on their behalf. You can start by ordering for yourself so that you can attest to the quality and value of the food provided through this program.
Our Witness committee will be coordinating the program and our volunteer needs. If you have questions or would like to volunteer on either a regular or occasional basis please speak with either John Tiedemann, Chair of our Witness Committee or Jonathan Bunker.

Orders may be placed at Berryville Presbyterian Church 123 W. Main Street Berryville. Ordering deadline for March is Monday, March 15th at 12:00 PM. The distribution day will be Saturday, March 27th. Food must be picked up at the church that day between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM.Orders not picked up will be donated.For more information call 955-1096.
